I want you to image 3 people in your life: your husband, your mother, your friend, your child, your coworker. Doesn’t matter who- just someone who knows you.
Now, imagine that each of them got a camcorder (yes, now you know I’m no longer a spring chicken) and followed you around all day. Each of them were with you, documentary-style filming the exact same day.
They then each edited their 12 hours worth of film into a 5 minute movie.
What is the movie that each person created for you? They each recorded the exact same 12 hours- are the movies the same?
Perhaps, your husband’s video has glimpses of you as you were getting ready this morning, working hard for your family, making dinner, playing with kids. Your mother’s may show you forgetting to make that doctor appointment, leaving the dirty dishes in the sink after lunch, and falling asleep to the TV in the evening. The movie from your coworker shows you giving a powerful presentation at work, gaining approval on the project you’ve been tackling all week. The videos are different because each person watches you from their own Point Of View. They see you through THEIR lens of life.
The videos are all factual though, are they not? Each movie captures A reality of those 12 hours.
This just shows you how powerful POV- Point Of View- is. Your day is entirely different depending on the POV you take.
Watch the videos you tell yourself about your life. Don’t like it, this video of your experience? Then, see if you can watch it from a new POV? Can you ask yourself ‘From where do I WANT to see this’?
