Practice what you want to be good at

We don’t always think of our choices in this way, but the conscious and unconscious actions we make make each day are what we practice. And the more you practice something, the better at it you become.

So are you practicing what you want to be good at? If you want to be a great mother, are you practicing being present and engaged with your kids? Or are you actually practicing impatience and frustration? As a female leader, have you decided what you want to be good at or known for? If it’s fairness and objectivity, are you being fair and objective each day? If you actually end up spending your days getting carried away by personal emotions, then you’re not practicing what you want to be good at.

If you want to lose weight, are you practicing making healthier decisions or are you practicing overeating? The more you practice overeating, the better you’ll be at it and the more you’ll struggle with your weight. Likewise, if you make a healthy choice after a healthy choice, you’re practicing- and getting better at- making decisions that align with your long-term goals.

Our experience of life is really just the result of what we’re practicing. This notion can be really powerful: you realize how much you create your life by your consistent and repetitive behaviors-  by what you practice every day.

 Ask yourself these questions:

-       What do I want to be good at?

-       What am I practicing right now?

-       Am I practicing something that I actually don’t want to be good at?

-       What do I want to practice in this situation?
